The FISHIMPACT project promotes ESG principles and healthy eating habits to increase the competitiveness of SMEs in aquaculture and fisheries in the Adriatic-Ionian region. It aims to improve sustainability by introducing quality criteria and tools to assess impacts on health, environment, and social aspects. The project will develop KPIs to measure progress and an online self-assessment toolkit. Additionally, it will offer training on circular economy and sustainability. The project will disseminate results to raise awareness among authorities, businesses, and consumers on the importance of sustainable fisheries development.
Requirements
FISHIMPACT aims to address the lack of tools to properly assess and communicate to consumers the health, environmental, and social practices of seafood products. These tools will become an integral part of business strategies, helping to improve the sector's reputation and competitiveness.
Features
Within the project, CibuSalus will carry out key activities, including the research and analysis on fish and shellfish consumption habits, health impacts and socio-demographic data to produce guidelines on seafood consumption. CibuSalus will also develop packaging guidelines that include sustainability and nutrition information, and create a web application to generate FISH-IMPACT QR labels. In addition, CibuSalus will assess the economic and social impacts of ESG awareness in the seafood sector.
Results
In particular, the project will develop a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and the nutritional benefits of aquaculture products.A multilingual online self-assessment toolkit will be created and tested with a selection of end users and stakeholders. This tool will allow businesses to measure their performance against ESG principles, contributing to greater transparency for consumers. Additionally, FISHIMPACT will promote training courses for the sector, focusing on topics such as circular economy, environmental labels, and product life cycle assessment.
Finally, the project plans wide-scale dissemination of results to raise awareness among public authorities, sectoral agencies, businesses, and consumers about the importance of sustainable development in the fisheries sector. The project aims to encourage a shift in consumer preferences towards more sustainable and healthy food choices.
