The project aims to support the creation of a platform capable of assessing a company’s social impact and comparing it with the performance of other businesses in the same sector.
The aim is to assist investors and stakeholders in assessing impacts, comparing performance and making strategic decisions, thereby contributing to the establishment of new standards for impact management and the reduction of practices such as impact washing. Sinloc is a partner in the project, alongside six other organisations from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. The initiative is supported by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) with a grant of €637,320.21.
Requirements
The project arises from two main needs. The first concerns investors, who require tools that ensure comparability between the indicators produced by different sustainability assessment methodologies, in order to more effectively compare companies that adopt different approaches. The second, expressed by stakeholders, relates to the need to understand how the market perceives a company and whether this perception aligns with what the company itself declares.
Features
The Impact Intel project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) programme and involves a consortium of six partners from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands: Open Impact, the lead organisation, Creas, Espacio RES, Euclide Network and Prometeia.
The project develops and tests methodologies that integrate various dimensions of impact performance analysis, including: benchmarking approaches for comparing similar organisations; materiality-based indicators, adapted to different sectors;
and analytical models inspired by the principles of financial and risk analysis.
One of the most innovative elements is the integration of what organisations report and how they are perceived by stakeholders and the market.
This introduces the concept of ‘coherence analysis’, which enables the identification of any discrepancies between the internal narrative and external perception, contributing to a deeper understanding of impact performance and strengthening the transparency of the ecosystem.
Results
The result is an inclusive platform that is useful for both companies and investors. It is a self-auditing solution designed to combat greenwashing in the social sphere, based on a comparison between what is declared (claim index) and how the company is perceived externally (perception index). This enables investors to make more strategic choices, thereby reducing the margin of error in their investments.
The ultimate aim is, in fact, to support the development of an impact economy that is more transparent, accountable and evidence-based, in which impact performance can be understood with a level of rigour increasingly comparable to that of financial analysis.
